Description
One of the finest feelings in the world in my opinion is the thrill of witnessing an eye popping sunrise first thing in the morning and being able to capture it on your cameras sensor. You get up at 4:30, drive over an hour to location, look for a good spot to set up in the dark, and then hope things all come together. Then when the sky finally begins to glow that brilliant pink, then gold, and the sun finally rises over the horizon and bursts through the clouds, casting a warm glow on the ground at your feet.....well, youre in heaven. Now imagine what it feels like to do all that and then nearly miss it. This was the case Saturday morning on my way to Bear Rocks in the Dolly Sods Wilderness in West Virginia. It was my first time driving there and I underestimated the time it would take to get there by about 15 minutes. I was a couple miles away when the sky lit up a bright pink and I looked over at my daughter and yelled...Im missing it! Im missing it! I raced as fast as I could on the gravel forest road to try and get there before it was over, I pulled into the Bear Rocks parking area, jumped out of the Jeep with camera and tripod in hand and hurriedly set up on the side of the road. Thankfully I was able to capture this image before the sun rose up into the clouds.
